Opportunities to Get Active at St. Luke’s Community Living

The ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge is an annual event that encourages Canadians to get moving throughout the month of June and track that activity for a chance to win cash (for their municipality) and prizes.  Communities that move the most will earn the designation of “Canada’s Most Active Community.”

Anglican Homes Incorporated has received a grant under this initiative to provide the very first offering of Ageless Grace in Newfoundland and Labrador to our tenants.  Ageless Grace is a set of 21 Tools to move your body and stimulate your imagination and brain.  It actually activates all 5 functions of the brain.  The program is based on science and play, can be performed in a chair, and incorporates music and fun.

FREE Sessions will be held in the conference room at Babb Manor on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons @ 2-3pm from June 1st to the 17th.  Elaine Dunphy will be the facilitator.  The following public health measures will be in effect:  screening, contact tracing documentation, non-medical face mask usage, physical distancing, hand sanitization, and cleaning.

We are able to accommodate only 14 participants per class.  Please contact Susan Haskell, Seniors Wellness Navigator, to register and reserve your place.  Please note that you are encouraged to consult with your physician before participating in any new exercise program.

Recreation Staff with the City of St. John’s will also be on-site in June to get us moving as part of the Community Better Challenge.  They will be here on June 15th from 10:30am – 12pm and on June 22 from 1:00pm – 2:30pm for some stretching, a walk, music and games.  Light refreshments will be served.  Pre-registration is not required.  Please wear sneakers, bring some water and a chair in order to participate.
